While all eyes seem to be mainly on the brand’s virtual reality headset, Apple also seems to be preparing a game console. It is in any case that suggest several patents filed so far, as well as additional rumors just published. We learn in particular that the device would be designed with aluminum and glass, as for the iPhone.
It would also be powered by its own proprietary operating system, different from iPadOS and other software we already know. As for the games on offer (similar to mario Where Zelda), they would be downloaded from the App Store: no cartridge, which is not surprising given Apple’s promise to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030.
An affordable price?
With an in-house chip similar to the M1 currently found in MacBook Pros, Apple’s console could perform better than the Nintendo Switch with OLED screen currently on the market. It is sold for 269 euros in France, where its headed rival would have a fixed price between 249 and 399 dollars. For comparison, $249 is also the price of the AirPods Pro (279 euros with us) and $399 that of the Apple Watch Series 7 (429 euros).
We can therefore easily assume that if the Cupertino console will be much more expensive than Nintendo’s competition, it would still be more affordable than an iPhone or a good iPad. In short, the article could quickly become a reference for gaming within the Apple ecosystem, where aficionados of this entertainment must still often invest in accessories today to enjoy a better experience.
Several models to choose from
With a Liquid Retina LCD screen, the Apple console would be recharged via a USB-C socket and not with a Lightning connector as still found on the company’s smartphones. Buyers would also have the choice between several colors, as with the last generation iMac.
It is impossible to know what the public expects from this future gadget as it still seems far from a possible release. What is certain, however, is that it will then be a serious additional asset to confirm the place of world number one in gaming for its manufacturer.
